Installing JBuilder 3.5 Foundation

Please read these instructions entirely before installing JBuilder 3.5 Foundation.

1. Download JBuilder 3.5 Foundation or order it on CD .
2. Download the JBuilder 3.5 Foundation Documentation, Samples and OpenTools files (optional).
3. Get your activation key.
4. Install JBuilder 3.5 Foundation.
5. Install the Documentation (optional).
6. Install the Samples (optional).
7. Install the OpenTools documentation (optional).
8. Run JBuilder 3.5 Foundation.
9. Uninstalling JBuilder 3.5 Foundation.

STEP 1: Download JBuilder 3.5 Foundation.

STEP 2: Download the JBuilder 3.5 Foundation Documentation, Samples and OpenTools files (optional).

All of the following files are optional and not required to install JBuilder 3.5 Foundation.

STEP 3: Get your activation key.

Click Here to Log In as a new or existing member, complete a short survey and agree to the JBuilder 3.5 Foundation license agreement to receive your activation key.
In exchange for your free access to these trials we will be contacting you in the future to ask a few questions about your experience with the product.

STEP 4: Install JBuilder 3.5 Foundation.

This version of JBuilder 3 contains an updated version of JDK 1.2.2 and JPDA.You should use this version instead of any earlier version that you might have.

Important! If you have a previous installation of JBuilder 3 Foundation or JBuilder 3 for Solaris, you will need to uninstall that version before installing JBuilder 3.5. See Uninstalling JBuilder for instructions for uninstalling JBuilder.

1. Unzip the win_jb35foundation.zip file you downloaded.
2. Double-click on install.exe to launch the first part of the installation program.
3. If needed, change the default language for JBuilder, then click OK.
4. Follow the prompts and click Next.
5. Accept the license agreement when prompted, then click Next.
6. Choose the directory where you want JBuilder installed, then click Next. Do not choose a directory that contains spaces in its name. JBuilder will not run if the name of the directory in which it is installed contains spaces.
7. When the installation program is completed, click Done.

STEP 5: Install the Documentation.

This step is optional depending on whether you decided to download the documentation files or not.

To install the JBuilder 3.5 documentation, you should have at least 70 MB of available hard disk space.

1. Unzip the win_jb35docs.zip file you downloaded.
2. Double-click on install.exe to launch the installation program.
3. Follow the prompts and click Next.
4. Accept the license agreement when prompted, then click Next.
5. Choose the directory where JBuilder is installed, then click Next.
   Note: If you install the JBuilder documentation into a location different from the suggested default directory, the documentation will not be accessible from the JBuilder Help Viewer.
6. When the installation program is completed, click Done.

STEP 6: Install the Samples.

This step is optional depending on whether you decided to download the sample files or not.

To install the JBuilder 3.5 samples, you should also have at least 10 MB of available hard disk space.

1. Unzip the win_jb35samples.zip file you downloaded.
2. Double-click on install.exe to launch the installation program.
3. Follow the prompts and click Next.
4. Accept the license agreement when prompted, then click Next.
5. Choose the directory where JBuilder is installed, then click Next.
6. When the installation program is completed, click Done.

STEP 7: Install the OpenTools Documentation

This step is optional depending on whether you decided to download the OpenTools documentation files or not.

1. Unzip the opentools.zip file you downloaded.
2. Unarchive these files into the directory where you would like this documentation stored.
   Note: The files will be unarchived beginning at the root of the directory you choose. We suggest that you unarchive these files to one of these directories:
   • jbuilder35/doc/opentools
   • jbuilder35/opentools

STEP 8: Running JBuilder 3.5 Foundation

When you run JBuilder 3.5 Foundation for the first time, you will need the serial number and registration key you obtained in Step 3.

1. Choose Start|Programs|JBuilder 3.5|JBuilder 3.5.
2. When the License Manager appears, enter your name and your company name, then click Add.
3. Enter your serial number and license key, then click OK.
4. Accept the license agreement when prompted, then click OK.
5. Click OK to exit the License Manager.
6. Click OK to exit the License Information dialog box.
7. JBuilder 3.5 Foundation is now running.

STEP 9: Uninstalling JBuilder 3.5 Foundation

To uninstall JBuilder 3.5 Foundation:

1. Locate the directory where JBuilder was installed.
2. Delete the JBuilder directory.
3. Delete the .jbuilder directory in your Windows or Windows NT directory.
